INNOVATIONS IN WATER CARE

Innovations in water care – like the Vanishing Act calcium remover, and Clean Screen pre-filter are extremely useful if you have water with high levels of calcium hardness or metal content that can often complicate the balancing process. These exclusive products also help you cut back on other bottled products typically needed to maintain spa water. In doing so, these products extend the life of your water so you don’t have to drain and refill the spa as often.

We are experts at spa water care, and can answer any questions you have as well as help you select the FreshWater products you need to keep your spa water crystal clear and inviting. You will find some common causes and solutions of water problems below, but please Contact Us if you have any other questions. We are happy to discuss your particular situation with you, and can test & analyze your water in the store if you bring us a sample.

FRESHWATER SPA MAINTENANCE

START-UP AND REFILL PROCEDURES

IMPORTANT NOTES

Add all spa chemicals directly into the filter compartment while the jet pump is running in its high speed mode, and it must run for a minimum of 10 minutes with the cover folded back. It is important to add chemicals according to the directions found on the container, and follow the steps below in order! If unsure about any step in the process, please contact us at (336) 790-8303. Want to spend less time maintaining your spa and more time enjoying it? Ask us about our Hot Tub Valet Services!

Don’t use bromine, sodium bromide, or biguanides with the Silver Ion Purifier.  These are active sanitizers and will chemically react with the silver ions to reduce their beneficial sanitizing effect.

Water clarifiers will cause the spa water to become cloudy.

  • Fill your spa with water through the filter compartment using the Pre-Filter to remove unwanted contaminants and metals
  • Install the Silver Ion Purifier into the filter standpipe with the gray filter cap
  • Use 5-Way Test Strips to test for Total Alkalinity, pH, and Sanitizer levels in spa water
  • Balance Total Alkalinity to 40-120 ppm
    • If TA is too low, add pH/Alkalinity Up
    • If TA is too high, add pH/Alkalinity Down
  • Balance the pH to the recommended level between 7.2-7.6
    • If pH is too low, add pH/Alkalinity Up
    • If pH is too high, add pH/Alkalinity Down
  • Balance Calcium Hardness to 50-150 ppm
    • If CH is too low (soft water), add Calcium Hardness Increaser
    • If CH is too high (hard water), use Vanishing Act Calcium Remover (can also add Stain & Scale Defense)
  • Add 2 teaspoons of Chlorinating Granules, and increase as necessary to reach/maintain a level of 3-5 ppm

FOLLOWING EACH USE

  • Add 1/2 teaspoon of Chlorinating Granules per 250 gallons, OR

  • OR Add 3 tablespoons of Chlorine Free Oxidizer (MPS) per 250 gallons
  • Use 5-Way Test Strips to test for Total Alkalinity, pH, Hardness, and Sanitizer levels in spa water and correct as needed

ONCE A MONTH

  • Clean your filters with Filter Cleaner

EVERY FOUR MONTHS

  • Drain, clean, and refill your spa (every 4-6 months, depending on usage)
  • Complete the start-up and refill procedures listed above
