Why are there so many different wood choices recommended?

There are many variables to consider when choosing the appropriate wood choice for performance in a given sauna. All the woods used in our saunas have been used for hundreds of years and have long proven their viability for sauna use. Wood choice is also largely contingent upon user preference and style. We hand select clear softwoods such as Western Red Cedar and vertical grain Canadian Hemlock and fine-grained European woods such as European Alder and Nordic White Spruce. We then complement these choices by matching bench materials which enhance the sauna user’s comfort levels. We determine the most ideal profiles, thickness specifications, framing materials, hardware – and give you a product that is built to perform and to last. Our warranties and decades of experience will give you further peace of mind when considering our wood choice expertise.

What type of circuit breaker should be used for my sauna?

Standard breakers should be used. They should be sized for the heater to correspond with the National Electric Code. Standard Infrared saunas, however, can be easily plugged into normal household 120-volt outlets (15 and 20 amp).

What heater size is appropriate for my sauna?

To find out the appropriate heater size for your sauna, measure Length x Width x Height to find the cubic footage. Next, find the correct heater on the Finnleo or Helo heater sizing chart. On the infrared saunas, the ideal amount of emitters and wattage has already been calculated for each room.

What kind of floor is best for a sauna?

For traditional saunas, the best kind of floor for a sauna is cement, tile or anything that doesn’t absorb water. For infrared saunas, wood or tile is perfect. Carpet, however, should never be used — as it absorbs sweat and odors.

Does my sauna need to have a drain installed?

No, not necessarily. That said, it may be more convenient for cleaning purposes — especially with our traditional saunas.

How long on average does it take for a sauna to fully heat up?

A traditional sauna generally takes between 30 and 45 minutes to fully heat up. During this time, the rocks will be heated to the perfect temperature for soft heat and soft steam. With the addition of a Saunatonttu heater, the sauna heat up time is halved. It takes about 10 minutes for an infrared sauna to heat up. After 10 minutes, the air has warmed up a little and the emitters are running at full power.

How much can I expect to pay monthly for my sauna?

If you use your sauna 3 times per week, a 6 kW heater will use approximately $4 to $6 per month. A 2.1 kW heater, on the other hand, would use about $2/month. Far-infrared saunas typically use $3 to $5 per month. Steam baths usually average $3 to $5 per month.

What are some of the most notable benefits of using a sauna?

Relaxation is by far the most cited benefit from regular sauna bathers, followed closely by the positive effects seen from detoxification. Learn more about the health benefits of a sauna.

Are there any health problems that I should be concerned about?

Be sure to consult your personal physician if you have any history of heart problems, high blood pressure or any other health problems before enjoying any kind of sauna.

Is it okay to pour water on the rocks of Finnleo traditional heaters?

Pouring water on the rocks of Finnleo traditional sauna heaters is perfectly fine and is an essential aspect of the overall experience! For infrared saunas, however, the humidity will be ambient. The new BWT feature on the Vena-T, Himalaya, and Laava makes adding water even easier than ever.

What should I do after sauna heat bathing?

After your sauna, cleanse your skin via shower or bath to remove any and all residues or salts left behind. A quick rinse will close your pores once again and is the perfect way to end your sauna experience. It is recommended that you moisturize your skin with a high-quality moisturizing lotion. It’s also ideal to shampoo your hair afterward. Don’t forget to drink an adequate amount of water, mineral water, fruit, or vegetable juice to replace fluids that were lost during your heat bathing.

How long should I stay inside a sauna?

While this, too, varies between individuals – one can usually stay in the sauna until they begin to feel uncomfortable. Typically, remain in the sauna for about 10-15 minutes and then take a break to cool off for several minutes. Then you can feel free to return to the sauna for another “inning.” A Finnleo sauna experience can be truly relaxing and rewarding, but don’t stay in the sauna for extended periods of time. Set the temperature and humidity level (if you are using a traditional sauna) to your ideal level. If you begin to feel dizzy or uncomfortable, simply leave the sauna and cool off.

What is the best temperature for a sauna?

The appropriate temperature for a sauna depends on your preference! Most people prefer to enjoy their sauna at temperatures between 150-175 degrees Fahrenheit for traditional saunas and 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit for infrared saunas.

We’re moving long-distance and are doing the move ourselves. Can you help us with our pool table?

If you want to move the pool table yourself, you should consider having us disassemble your table and consult with you on the moving process; however, we are happy to advise you whether you want us to disassemble the table or not. Pool table slate weighs about 600 pounds and can be very difficult to move and expensive to replace should any damage occur, so we always recommend having a professional handle your table. Please fill out our Service Request form and we will contact you to discuss.

We’re moving long-distance and have hired a moving company to handle our furniture and household items. Will they move our pool table?

Moving companies require that your table be professionally disassembled and crated – reputable companies will not handle it otherwise

How much notice do you need to schedule our move or service?

We are typically booked out 1-2 weeks, though this varies by season, and we will work something out for last-minute jobs if at all possible.

If my cushions need replacing, how long does this process take?

This process requires stripping the old rail rubber, sanding the old glue off the wood, gluing the new cushions on, and letting them cure for 24 hours before we proceed. We generally bring the rails back to the shop to replace the cushions, and it can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week to complete the job and get the rails back on your table, depending on time constraints. Please Contact Us to discuss your specific situation.

What are the “cushions” and how do I know if they need to be replaced?

Cushion rubber is an integral part of the pool table as it provides the rebound of the ball off the rail. There is a designated height that the cushion rubber should be from the playing surface, which is determined by the profile of the rail and the rubber. It is applied with contact glue and cut to match the opening of the pocket accordingly. Each cushion should have the same amount of play in it and they should be checked all the way around the table. If there are any hard spots, then the whole set needs to be replaced. Some cushion rubber will become soft and spongy over time and will have a memory foam effect – this is also a sign of necessary replacement. When replacing cushions, the felt must also be replaced – something to keep in mind when looking at used tables, as this can drive up the cost of that “great used deal” considerably. We check the cushions on each used table we purchase and sell, and replace them if necessary, so the table will be in excellent playing condition for its new owners!

How long does it take to move and/or refelt a pool table?

Excluding travel time, we average about 3 hours total to disassemble and reassemble most pool tables. Add about an hour for refelting. This estimate varies based upon difficulty level and placement in the home. We ask that you plan for us to be in your home for about an hour to disassemble the table and 2-3 hours for reassembly. Antique and specialty tables can require an additional 2-4 hours.

Does the price of felt vary based on color and/or brand?

Standard felt replacement with Championship Invitational blended wool fabric is what we include in estimates for recreational players. There is a small additional fee for Titan Brite colors, but any other color is the same cost. If you’d like to upgrade to a worsted-wool fabric, let us know and we can discuss the cost with you.

What are the available felt colors?

We stock three different brands of pool table cloth – Championship Invitational w/ Teflon, Hainsworth Elite Pro, and Simonis. You can view available colors here. Please keep in mind that monitor settings vary from computer to computer, causing some shades to appear lighter or darker. We highly recommend that you choose your felt in-person at one of our stores if at all possible.

How much will it cost to move and/or service my pool table?

Each move is priced individually based on difficulty and distance. Just to give you an idea, our moving charges typically start around $400 to move an 8′ pool table locally from one residence to another. This price can vary based on your unique situation. We can usually get you an estimate within a few hours if you send us information about your table and where it’s moving from and to.

What are your store hours?

Both the Greensboro and Huntersville locations are open Monday – Saturday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. However, we are flexible and will gladly set up an appointment for you outside of business hours if necessary.

Do you charge extra for service outside of your normal service radius?

We include 25 miles of travel distance (not including return to home base) for standard service jobs and then typically charge $2/mile. If you are flexible on timing and we can combine jobs in your service areas, we can often be flexible with this mileage charge.

Where are your stores located?

Everything Billiards & Spas Greensboro is located at 111 Guilford College Road, Greensboro, NC 27409, just off of Market Street, with easy access from Wendover and Friendly. Everything Billiards & Spas Charlotte is located at 16637 Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078, just off Sam Furr Rd / I-77 at Exit 25, next to Chili’s and Longhorn Steakhouse.

What areas do you service?

We service tables all over the state and in other areas as needed. Our general service area covers about a 50-mile radius of the Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point) and Charlotte & Lake Norman areas. We also travel to Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and surrounding areas to fill demand a couple of days each week. Furthermore, we service pool tables in and around Danville, VA, and all areas in-between. Please Contact Us if you’re outside these areas and looking for someone to service your table. If we don’t service your area, we may know a good technician who does.

Is Everything Billiards insured?

Everything Billiards has a $1,000,000 General Liability Insurance Policy. We also carry Cargo Insurance for items in transit, employee theft bonding, and worker’s compensation. We are licensed and certified by major pool table manufacturers.

Does my new or used table come with a warranty?

All of our new pool tables come with a full lifetime warranty against structural defects. We provide a 90-day warranty on our preowned pool tables. Again, if you have a legitimate concern, we will do anything within reason to make it right. Felt is not guaranteed, although if there is any defect upon installation, we will obviously bring out a new piece!

Does Everything Billiards offer a warranty on pool table service?

We want our customers to be happy! We guarantee our pool table service for 90 days after the date of service. This warranty is void if someone stands or sits on the pool table, or tries to move it in any way! If you have a legitimate concern, we will do anything within reason to make it right.

How can I preserve my felt?

We sell a spray cleaner and microfiber cloth ($20) that works extremely well to clean felt. This cleaner attracts dust and dirt and will not only make your felt look new but will also prolong its life. Otherwise, we recommend brushing the felt in one direction. I usually tell folks to brush from the head of the table to the foot (direction of break). Vacuums are not recommended, though a lint roller can work well to clean darker felts.

How do I protect my pool table?

The best protection for your pool table is a heavy-duty cover, which can be purchased at our store, online, or from a technician at installation. This will protect your table from dust, animals, and sunlight. Sunlight is damaging to the finish and rubber cushions and will discolor the felt. Keep in mind that anything you put on the top rails (furniture polish) can leave a residue that will likely get transferred to the felt through players’ hands. Furthermore, you don’t want to put conditioner on the leather pockets as it will transfer from the balls to the felt.

Do not try to slide or move your table for any reason

Most pool tables are made to be disassembled before moving. There are very few exceptions to this rule. If you attempt to move your pool table in any way, the warranty is void and you could possibly cause the table to collapse or damage pieces of the table that may be irreplaceable. At the very least, moving the table will generally require releveling. We have specialty tools to help us slide tables as necessary, and we are happy to give you a quote for our pool table service.

Do not sit on the edges of your pool table

Pool tables are made for playing pool, not sitting on. Pull up a chair if you want to sit down! This can cause the seams to pop loose or the cushions to fall off the rail (weight is usually applied directly down on the cushion where it is seated on the rail).

Do not stand on your pool table

Many times, people will use their pool table to hang lights or change light bulbs. This is never ok! Most pool tables are 3-piece slate, and while very heavy and sturdy, if too much weight is applied to the playing surface, the slate seams (where the pieces meet up) can pop loose and create a ridge or bump under the felt. This will require releveling of the table.

What should I look for when buying a used pool table?

Please view our Buying Used section for a bulleted list of components that make up a pool table for more information about what to look out for. We also buy and sell used tables – check out our preowned tables for current stock. We are also happy to consult with you on any used tables you find on your own or assist you with any moves or services you might need.

I’d like to put a rug under my table. Is that a good idea?

If you have hardwood floors, tile, or concrete and would like to place a rug under the table, it’s personal preference. Rugs can be beneficial in dulling the echo of the balls rolling across the table or just in dressing up the look of the room. I would not recommend putting a rug on top of a carpeted floor; they tend to bunch up around the table. We ask that if you want to put a rug under your table that you have it in place before we arrive, and we will help you adjust it if necessary.

Is my pool table slate?

There are a lot of inexpensive, non-slate tables sold – they are often marketed as slatron or perma-slate (essentially, mdf that is designed to look like slate). Slate is the best playing surface for a pool table, due to its weight and durability. A premium-quality slate table will be diamond-honed and machine-cut to meet specifications for true flatness. You can take a look underneath your table to determine the playfield, but if you’re still not sure, we should be able to help you determine the answer with pictures or the manufacturer’s name.

What is the regulation size for a pool table?

A lot of people ask us about “regulation” size tables. Tournament pool is played on different sizes, depending on the body governing the event. When you watch the pros on TV playing pool, they are usually playing on a 9′ table, but there are also tournaments played on 7′ and 8′ pool tables. Most people put 8′ tables in their home; however, it’s really up to you to decide what you want. Our experience is that it’s rare to find the space for a 9′ table in a residential area and 8′ is by far the most common. Typically, serious league or tournament players want to purchase a 9′ table to hone their skills and practice, but the most important questions to ask are what you can afford and how much space you have.

How much space do I need for a pool table?

Most of our customers are looking for an 8′ table for their home; you need about 13’6″ x 17′ to accommodate an 8′ table. See the Room Requirements Page for more details and a graphic.

How do I determine the size of my table?

Measure the playing surface of the pool table from bumper to bumper (only where the ball can actually roll). See the Room Requirements Page for more details and a graphic.

Should I Buy a Pool or Hot Tub?

Deciding between a pool and hot tub can depend on a variety of factors, like your lifestyle, budget, and personal preferences. If you have a large, open-concept backyard layout and are looking for a new approach to recreation, exercise, or entertainment, a swimming pool might be the right solution for you and your family. On the other hand, if stress reduction, eased aches and pains, and relaxation is what you seek, a hot tub might be in the cards for you.

Neither a pool nor hot tub is better than the other, we don’t like to play favorites here at Ace Swim & Leisure! It all depends on what you are looking to get out of your backyard, whether it’s stress relief and relaxation, or fitness, fun, and entertainment. Is professional hot tub service worth it?

For many spa owners, regular service and maintenance from a professional is worth it. Regular service can help to ensure that your spa water is always safe, enjoyable and ready to use. A professional can also use this time to inspect your spa, looking for any issues or potential problem areas that could lead to damage, an imbalance in water or costly repairs, and rectify the situation before it grows into a larger issue.

How long should I stay inside a hot tub for?

How long you stay inside a hot tub for can depend on several deciding factors, including your age, health, climate, water temperature, and personal preference. As a general rule of thumb, it is suggested to soak in a hot tub for anywhere from 15-45 minutes at a temperature of up to 102° F.

If you are new to using a hot tub, we suggest starting with shorter soaks until you gradually build your tolerance, adjust to the environment or find which suits you best. If you have a pre-existing health condition, we suggest that you first speak with your physician to ensure the safest way to enjoy hydrotherapy.

How often should I drain my hot tub?

How often you change your hot tub water can depend greatly on how often the spa is used, the quality of water used to fill it and how well the water is maintained. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend draining, cleaning and refilling the hot tub every three to four months for an optimal operation.

How often should I clean my filter?

A clean and functioning filter is key to an operational filtration system, as it catches and removes dirt and debris, keeping the water clean and free of impurities. We recommend rinsing the filter every two weeks with fresh water from the hose or kitchen sink. You can also use this time to spray it down with a filter cleaner and then continue to rinse.

Filter cleaning nozzles are available that can be attached to the end of a hose, which can help water to better reach the nooks and crannies of your filter. Soak your filter overnight in a bucket filled with water and a small amount of filter cleaner every two months to remove deep-down debris. We recommend replacing your hot tub filter annually to ensure a fully-functional filtration system.

How often should I clean my hot tub?

How often and in what manner you clean your hot tub will depend on two factors: how often the spa is used and the manufacturer.

  • Test your hot tub water with test strips once or twice a week.
  • Treat your hot tub water accordingly based on the readings from the test strips.
  • Clean the filter every two weeks with water from the hose.
  • Drain, clean and fill the hot tub once every three to four months.

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is a therapeutic technique that harnesses the healing properties of water. The combination of heat, buoyancy and massage helps to relax muscles, ease sore joints, improve circulation, and reduce muscle tension. Used by healthcare professionals all around the world, hydrotherapy can help to improve sleep patterns, reduce stress, ease aches and pains, aid in post-injury recovery, and soothe sore joints, among many other health benefits.

What size hot tub should I buy?

The size of your hot tub should reflect your intended use for it. Will it cater to the needs of the entire family? Is it meant just for you and your significant other? Or do you enjoy hosting elaborate backyard parties? Your lifestyle and layout of your backyard can help you determine if you would like to invest in a smaller or larger hot tub.

Most hot tub brands have models available in the following sizes and capacities: 2-3 seats, 4-5 seats, 5-6 seats, 6 or more seats. For a better idea of how big or small our hot tubs are, visit our showroom in person today.

Should I buy a hot tub?

Making the decision to buy a hot tub is a big one. It’s not something you do every day, after all. Your lifestyle can have a significant impact on the decision to purchase a hot tub. Before making the decision, ask yourself these following questions:

  1. Where in my backyard will I install a hot tub?
  2. Will the hot tub be for my entire family, or just for me?
  3. Will I benefit from fewer aches and pains, better sleep, and reduced stress?
  4. Will I enjoy the convenience of access to hydromassage in the comfort of my own home?
  5. Will my family benefit from the additional family time in the spa?

If you said yes to one or more of the questions above, a hot tub might be right for you! Speak with one of our team members to learn more about the prices, sizes, and brands available to you.
